“Point of design: the project of an apartment in loft style with elements of Japanese aesthetics”

“We designed the interior for an established businessman of 45 years who lives with his girlfriend. The apartment is located in a new residential complex near metro station “Belorusskaya” and a surface area of 200 square meters. The owner is fond of the Japanese aesthetic and tries to lead an appropriate way of living: does yoga and meditates.

The apartment is a redevelopment and the emphasis on loft-style with the inclusion of modern trends. We wanted to preserve the open space of the apartment. Due to the ceiling height of almost 5 meters we were able to use the second light apartment with mezzanine.

A striking element of the apartment is the kitchen, located at the center of the room, above which is a mezzanine, “the nest”. Upstairs there is a platform where you can meditate.

“The project of the apartment in loft style with elements of Japanese aesthetics: the bedroom”

Bedroom. In the bedroom we have tried to reflect Japanese aesthetics, which is close to the owner. This was done using simple forms and natural materials. Partition was made of bricks laid on its side, which helped to create an openwork design on the lumen that separates the dressing room area. The ceiling is inherent in Japanese architecture, a formative architectural element, which simultaneously separates the high ceilings and creates an interesting rhythm. Lamps simple forms support the overall concept. They have a frame shape and reminiscent of the black strokes, standing out against the grey and beige shades.

Office. The Cabinet is also a fairly simple room in which there is nothing superfluous, that would distract from the work. In my free time, my landlord likes to layout and assemble a collection of models of ships. For this passion also has a special space. The quality of finishing materials selected room wall under the concrete that reflect the character of the owner. Accent is the color of natural wood, which is duplicated in cabinets and Desk. As in the bedroom, here the black stroke of the stand out fixtures, frame chairs and the foot of the tables.

Kitchen. The landlord often takes guests love to enjoy a meal, so the key point for him was the space where I could gather my guests. Chairs made in the same group from the collection of designer Nendo. They have a frame structure and an unusual shape, like from the cartoon anime. Finishing materials, quite simple and very expressive, made of particleboard. Table of material marmorial composed of slabs. Breakfast in the kitchen not only at the table but at the bar. Above the kitchen is a mezzanine floor on which the customer likes to meditate.

“The project of the apartment in loft style with elements of Japanese aesthetics: the bathroom”

Bathroom. Full bathroom built on the form: a very simple and concise form-building elements such as circles, are duplicated in the lamp, the toilet, the mirror. The bricks laid on end, are unifying elements for the bathroom and bedroom. Was selected tiles architect Oscar Niemeyer in the style of constructivism. In such an unusual space like this bathroom, we didn’t want to have standard forms, so as the towel rail was selected as staircase.

Thus, our task was to convey not only the nature of the customer (as reflected in the choice of rough materials such as concrete, decorative plaster), but also to reflect Eastern aesthetics, characterised by concise forms and a love for natural materials. In the interior there is a lot of iconic finishing materials, each with its own history. The space turned out and expressive, and functional, as we combined the kitchen, dining area, space for yoga and allocated a room under the Hobbies of the owner”.
