“Sick, withered and improperly growing branches should be cut with pruning shears”

Remove all the excess

When the October leaf fall is over, with trees and shrubs need to be rid of all superfluous:

– remove the remaining fruit and place them in a compost pit, or, if the fruit have traces of the disease, to take them off-site and buried deep in the ground;

– remove fallen leaves and similar fruits, healthy leaves to send them to compost or mulch their flower beds with perennial flowers, decorative plants and leaves affected by powdery mildew,
scab or other diseases to take footage and burn it (do not forget to clean away fallen leaves and fruits not only the earth but also the roof of the house and outbuildings);

– remove from trees trapping zone, protecting plants from insect pests, and also remove moss, lichens and dead old bark (anything that can burn – burn and hunting belt made of fabric wash and send to the house for safekeeping);

– trim all diseased, dead, damaged and improperly growing branches of trees with secateurs or a small saw, and then treat the trimmed areas with a mixture of copper sulphate and obscure garden pitch;

– trim unproductive, infected and dry and old branches of bushes (black currant branches are considered old, under 5 years of age, white and red currants – 8-year-old, from gooseberry – 6-year-old, from raspberries to be cut all the branches, except for the annual healthy shoots).

All of these activities should be carried out in dry weather before frosts. This will help the plants with the onset of spring to devote all of our energies on the growth of the young and most productive shoots.

Watered and fed plants

Watch autumn weather, noting the approximate number and intensity of rains. If the fall is rather dry and the soil had too little rain moisture, should be abundantly watered the area around the trunk of each tree and shrub at the rate of 50 liters of water per large plant, and 25-30 liters of trees and shrubs of medium size. Watering trees and shrubs should be gradually, moving from one plant to another, so, in order to nourish the soil moisture to a depth of 1 meter. Watch the temperature of water for irrigation, it should be 5°C warmer than air temperature. After completion of the work row the area be sure to mulch to preserve the soil moist. A suitable compost, peat or spruce spruce branches.

Fertilizer for trees and shrubs use organic and mineral.

Organic fertilizers – humus, compost, ash, and nevazna manure. Humus is used at the rate of 0.5 buckets per 1 sq. m. area around the trunk; the compost is 1.5-3 buckets per 1 sqm, depending on the age and size of plants; the ash is diluted from the calculation of 100 g of ash per 10 liters of water; the slurry in the ratio of 1:10. Raspberry bushes are also allowed to feed with manure rate of 6 kg per 1 sq. m. of raspberry or chicken manure, diluted with water in proportion 1:12.

Mineral fertilizers for the autumn feeding of garden trees and shrubs should not contain nitrogen, as it stimulates their growth and makes it more vulnerable to frost. Use potassium-forborne fertilizers: superphosphates, sulphate, potassium chloride or potassium sulfate.

Protect plants from pests, diseases, burns and freezing

To get rid of harmful insects by using a simple soil loosening to a depth of about 15-25 cm – thus we are raising to the surface of the larvae, which will then be destroyed by frost. In addition, to control pests will help the processing of tree trunks region a urea based 1 kg on 10 liters of water and spraying the crown of the tree or shrub with a solution of half the concentration. This will save the plant from pathogens of scab, powdery mildew, kokkomikoza and other diseases. Upon detection of traces of mold, use a solution of Bordeaux fluid.

“Loosening the soil around the tree before frost will help in the fight against harmful insects”

With the coming of spring, the trees did not suffer from the bright sun, they need to apply the plaster – you can buy a ready-made solution, or prepare it yourself, it will require 10 liters of water, 0.5 kg of copper sulfate and 3 kg lime.

For protection from rodents and birds young the affected bark should be wrapped with roofing material, plastic (e.g., cut plastic containers) or old nylon tights.

Finally, to protect whimsical plants from the devastating effects of severe frosts, and following all other procedures for their basal area to cover with straw, spruce branches, healthy leaves fallen from the trees or other suitable materials. The vine of wild grapes, it is important to pre-cut and treated with a solution of iron sulphate. Coniferous shrubs must be linked, giving them a cone shape – this will facilitate the removal from them of snow (otherwise there is a risk of deformation of the crown and even the occurrence of faults).

In the winter season before the onset of the thaw, you must trample down the snow around the trees and fences to preserve his plot (snow prevents freezing of the roots of trees and shrubs and gives enough moisture with the beginning of the spring season). In addition, utaplivanie snow to the state of a thick dense layer around tree trunks to prevent rodents in the spring to get to the trunk and damage it.

Don’t forget to equip and periodically filling the winter bird feeders – and then in the warm season they will often fly to visit you, or even arrange on the site of the nest, making it easier for you to combat insect pests.
